Big Ten Divisions

Here is the divisional setup for the Big Ten

Division X

  • Iowa
  • Michigan
  • Michigan State
  • Minnesota
  • Nebraska
  • Northwestern

Divison O

  • Wisconsin
  • Penn State
  • Ohio State
  • Purdue
  • Indiana
  • Illinois

Now I guess they could have made it worse but I think it is a bad decision.  I would put it like this.

West

  • Iowa
  • Nebraska
  • Wisconsin
  • Illinois
  • Northwestern
  • Minnesota

East

  • Michigan
  • Michigan State
  • Ohio State
  • Indiana
  • Purdue
  • Penn State
I think that this sets the conference up so that the divisions are equally balanced and keeps rivalries intact.  It gives each division 3 teams that have traditionally been really good.  It also gives each division a team that is on the edge of breaking out.  Two teams that are okay not great but good.  It also keeps most of the rivalries intact.  I don't think that it breaks any up correct me if I am wrong as I don't know them all.  I think that if you keep a 5 divisional and 3 cross divisional games you can easily keep tradition every other year or every two years on and off.  The biggest problem that I have with this is the fact that they split Michigan and Ohio State.  I see absolutely no way this will work.  Just like Alabama vs Florida it won't mean as much as they can just play and win the conference championship game.  I will add more in a day or two.
